There was much excitement and joy as the Cogir team granted between $1,000 and $5,000 to local organizations chosen for causes dear to its residences. Overall, the total amount donated to the province’s different charities approached $100,000.

In these exceptional times, the needs are great and there is reason to believe that gifts are fewer. The selection included food banks, communal kitchens, assistance groups for family caregivers as well as organizations and causes most relevant to the elderly such as Montreal’s Alzheimer’s Society.

This year will remain embedded in our collective memory,” declared Frédéric Soucy, President of Cogir Management. “We wanted to do something special for these individuals who work hard every day, often without pay, to make a difference.

The contribution of volunteer organizations is particularly important in helping seniors to safely keep their independence. Whether it is by accompanying them to a medical appointment, assisting them in running errands, or simply having a friendly visit, these little acts make a lot of difference in the daily lives of our region’s elders. We are quite happy to lend them a hand this year,” says Yves Duguay, Vice-President of Operations in Cogir’s Private Retirement Home Division.

Given the unusual circumstances of the last few months, we are aware that the food banks will experience greater demand, whereas food and money donations will likely diminish this year. We are pleased to help put food on the table of Quebec families,” adds Jean Trudel, Assistant Vice-President of Operations in Cogir’s Private Retirement Home Division.
