The technical department team of Cogir Real Estate was quite proud when it was recently notified of the Manoir Outremont retirement home’s qualification as a finalist in BOMA Quebec’s Building Energy Challenge.

This news comes following the presentation of the 2018–2019 energy efficiency project.

In fact, several measures aimed at significantly reducing the building’s energy consumption were implemented in the search for constant improvement combined with an environmentally responsible mindset. Boiler modernization, optimization of indoor ventilation, swimming pool system control as well as efficient management of peak electrical demand, these are some of the efforts made to improve energy performance. “Energy consumption in a building such as Manoir Outremont is significant. Not only does it constitute a major expense, but it also has an impact on the environment. Therefore, it is particularly important for us to constantly look for ways to improve our energy consumption practises. Taking part in the challenge is a great motivator,” says Luc Couturier, Vice President, Technical Services & Procurement.

The Building Energy Challenge extends over a four-year period, from 2018 through 2021. The energy performance is compared among comparable buildings and winners are rewarded annually. Participants can gain a greater understanding of their building, develop an energy management strategy, implement new measures, monitor progress and carry out changes as required. At the end of the challenge, the major winners will be recognized during a reception held in the spring of 2022.
